They required a corporate identity to be created, as well as a modern looking, easy to use website that would allow them to sell their patterns online in a digital format. These could be downloaded by the user after they have paid via an online checkout solution. Bearing these requirements in mind, a site was constructed that had an individual yet simple looking layout and interface, but a fully bespoke e-Commerce store. Users can purchase a knitting pattern in only a few simple steps, and the site itself allows for a nearly limitless amount of patterns to be added over time. The e-Commerce store itself is made up of several, equally crucial components. Initially the user can browse the available patterns, firstly by category, then subcategory. Information on all of the patterns available are stored securely on a Microsoft Access Database, which is then accessed via the site to create an almost infinite amount of product pages. As they are browsing the patterns, the user can add a pattern of their choice to the online shopping basket. All of their chosen patterns are then stored until they decide to proceeded to the checkout phase. The final step of the process is for the user to enter their payment and delivery details into a secure (SSL) order form, which then process their details. As long as the payment has been successfully processed the shopper is automatically emailed their knitting patterns within minutes.
